DIDX.net is a wholesale online direct inward dialing marketplace where thousands of service providers in 170 nations buy and sell phone numbers. They sell to service providers on DIDX who then resell to their consumer, SMB, and SME end-users. Australia DID are listed in area codes that do not exactly match political territories. Quite a conundrum for those who need Australia DID that are local to those important to them ... conundrum, yes, especially when the person calling the local Australian DID finds that it is not really local and will be paying long distance charges.
Check Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%2B61 for a pretty exhaustive and effective description of Australian area codes and how to dial an Australian DID no matter where you are. I've copied one section here from Wikipedia as listed on March 27, 2009 at 10:43 AM PST:
